Some expectant parents are wary of having a “stranger” in their home in the emotionally tender times after a new baby arrives. Here’s what former clients have said about their doula experience:
"My feelings regarding a postpartum doula, especially for first time mothers are that they represent a sense of mothering for the mother. PPD’s let mothers know that everything will be fine, mother and baby will sail through the first couple of weeks, maybe with a couple of hiccups and that mother and baby will fall into a routine. All the good things like bonding, established sleeping and eating patterns are constantly emphasized, which for me was so very important! You represented a safety net for me and a sense of security. "
"Having Elaine as a
post-partum doula following the birth of my first child was a blessing. As an
anxious first time mom, she took care of me and my baby. I wanted her to stay
and help for the first full year!"
Lana, Teaneck
"Elaine brings the wisdom and experience of mothers everywhere. We were lucky to
have such a skilled, compassionate person to help guide us with our firstborn."
Carrie and Ed, Ridgewood
"Having
a postpartum doula is like having an extra mother without the guilt. While I
was recovering from a c-section, Elaine helped me with laundry, cooking dinner,
and bathing my newborn and my two-year-old, while at the same time she advised
me on breastfeeding and tactics for getting the baby to sleep. Hers was the
clear head while mine was dazed from lack of sleep."
Debby, Mahwah
"Thank you so much. Your helpfulness transformed uncertainty and doubt into
knowledge and
understanding. Scott and Kieran appreciated your help too!"
Anita, Allendale
"All four of us would like to thank you for the many ways you've filled in,
offered a hand and helped out. We couldn't have made it through these last
few
weeks without you. Thanks again."

"After trying every trick in the book at the hospital my son just would not
latch on. We realized on his second day of life that he was tongue tied
and had to have a procedure to correct it. On his fifth day Elaine came
over to our house and stayed and worked with me to help Jack learn how to latch
on. It wasn't more than 24 hours later and Jack was eating like a champ.
Elaine's patience and knowledge helped me breastfeed, a bond I could not imagine
missing out on."
Jennifer and Sean, Ridgewood
"Elaine was a loving, calming, reassuring and experienced set of hands during a
very physically and emotionally overwhelming time. She took care of us and
helped us take care of our children. I can't imagine the first few weeks of our
babies' lives without her."
Julie
"Elaine has been my doula for both of my children. I don’t know how I could have
done it without her. She has taught me everything from cleaning the umbilical
cord, to first baths, to helping me nurse. Most importantly, she mothered this
mother by making sure I ate and drank – enabling me to focus on what I needed to
– mothering my children. Whether it was my first, or my second child, Elaine was
indispensable. She would entertain and nurture my older child when I was busy
doing things with the new baby. Sometimes, I didn’t know who looked forward to
her arrival more, me or my child who would run to greet her each day. Elaine has
been my doula with each birth of my children, and I would hope she would be
there for all the rest as well. She is a part of this family now. She is the
best."
